Coke: Weight Watchers Should Pay Less Attention to their Diet [Video]

They say exercise is less about your diet and more about your exercise. Well, at least that’s what Coca-Cola says in a controversial attempt to save any chance of Coca-Cola surviving in the future. Sounds like trouble.

Sales of Coca-Cola have been slipping for the past ten years. Consumers are smartening up and moving onto tastier, healthier and more beneficial beverages. Coca-Cola doesn’t taste amazinng, has no real energy or mood benefit and it certainly isn’t healthy – we’re looking at you too, Coka Zero. Other soft drinks including Pepsi are also suffering from sales losses.

Enter stage left the Global Energy Balance Network. This is a non-profit which Coca-Cola funneled $1.5 billion dollars into. Don’t believe me just watch:

Steven N. Blair, vice president of the group is positive about the results of the study. He claims,

“Most of the focus in the popular media and in the scientific press is, ‘Oh they’re eating too much, eating too much, eating too much’ — blaming fast food, blaming sugary drinks and so on. And there’s really virtually no compelling evidence that that, in fact, is the cause.”

Health experts and anyone with over ten brain cells are calling Coca-Cola’s motives into question. Isn’t there something slightly suspicious about a soft drink company donating over a billion dollars into a study proving that soft drinks aren’t bad for health? It seems the message they’re pushing is – okay, okay, soft drinks might not be good for you – but they won’t kill you if you exercise probably.


And get this: this isn’t the first time Coca-Cola pulled such a risque move says Fortune. In February this year, the American Beverage Association, which represents Coke and Pepsi, published findings of a study that suggested diet soda could aid in weight loss. This has been refuted elsewhere. Well obviously.

You have good reason to be skeptical about Coca-Cola’s study. But even though there are so many things wrong with Coke, sometimes you get a sugar rush for that painfully addictive drink. So here are your options:

Let’s be honest here. Sometimes the only reason we reach for coke is because it is a cheap and easy fix. Vending maches are everywhere and that cheap price is oh so tempting. But it’s even easier to find water. If you didn’t realize, most Starbucks chains will give you free water if you ask politely – even if you aren’t a customer. Several cafes do the same.
